How to direct a Pantomime – Part 1

How to direct a Pantomime – Part 1

  1. At some point during the previous years show say to yourself ‘I could do this’ – ‘I could totally direct a Panto’
  2. Do a bit of research and find a script you really like
  3. Submit said script to Production Committee with attached note ‘I could totally direct a Panto’
  4. Amid huge amount of competition (ahem), get granted your wish to direct Panto
  5. Celebrate
  6. Panic
  7. Ask for help
  8. Give in to your control freak tendencies and believe you can do everything yourself
  9. Panic
  10. Realise that your inner control freak is a complete idiot
  11. Get help
  12. Put on a brave face and try to spread a bit of enthusiasm in order to rouse a cast
  13. Celebrate when you get a full house at the read through
  14. Celebrate even more when they turn up to audition
  15. Celebrate when you are not only able to cast it but cast it well
  16. Panic
  17. Get your nerd on and break down the panto into manageable chunks and then make a spreadsheet….
  18. Distribute spreadsheet to all your willing (and not so willing) helpers
  19. Repeat to yourself ‘I can totally direct a Panto – I can TOTALLY direct a Panto…?’
  20. And begin…..

To be continued…..
