How to direct a Pantomime – Part 1
How to direct a Pantomime – Part 1
- At some point during the previous years show say to yourself ‘I could do this’ – ‘I could totally direct a Panto’
- Do a bit of research and find a script you really like
- Submit said script to Production Committee with attached note ‘I could totally direct a Panto’
- Amid huge amount of competition (ahem), get granted your wish to direct Panto
- Celebrate
- Panic
- Ask for help
- Give in to your control freak tendencies and believe you can do everything yourself
- Panic
- Realise that your inner control freak is a complete idiot
- Get help
- Put on a brave face and try to spread a bit of enthusiasm in order to rouse a cast
- Celebrate when you get a full house at the read through
- Celebrate even more when they turn up to audition
- Celebrate when you are not only able to cast it but cast it well
- Panic
- Get your nerd on and break down the panto into manageable chunks and then make a spreadsheet….
- Distribute spreadsheet to all your willing (and not so willing) helpers
- Repeat to yourself ‘I can totally direct a Panto – I can TOTALLY direct a Panto…?’
- And begin…..
To be continued…..
