With less than a week to go, it’s time for you to meet John Bradnum, the director of Who Is Theo, and find out what’s really going on.
So this is the big leap into direction…. what made you do it?!!
I’ve wanted to direct for a few years now but have been waiting for the right show. When I first read ‘Who is Theo?’, I was not only laughing out loud throughout, but also found I was picturing the characters and their movements as well as almost ‘hearing’ their voices and comic timing.
What appealed to you about this play?
I’ve always been a big fan of comedy and I knew that the first show I would direct would have to make me laugh – this script delivered! Not only that, but I instantly fell in love with the characters. Each of them has a very different reaction to the surreal scenario that unfolds and we get to see their personality come through which makes it easy to identify with them and gets you thinking about how you would react in a similar situation.
How are you finding the creative process so far?
I’m really enjoying the whole experience (so far!). I have a great cast, an excellent production team and so much support from the KLP family. It’s been great to see my ideas coming to life and be able to tweak them in rehearsals and receive immediate feedback – things are really coming together and I’m absolutely delighted with the progress we’ve made already.
I’m afraid not – I want everyone to come and enjoy the whole show in all its glory!
And… who is Theo?
Theo represents what we all aspire to be; charming, fun loving, successful, confident and intoxicated. He makes us question who we are and what we are doing with our lives. He’s the kind of person that makes you want to be a better human being… On the other hand, he could just be a random drunkard – you’ll have to come and see the show and make up your own mind!
